Siletz Bay/Lincoln City with Nancy/Rick/Kristen
On Tuesday, my friend David asked me if I would fly his boss Friday to Lincoln City and after making some arrangements and thinking it over, I said yes.
Nancy was throwing a surprise 50th birthday party for her husband in Lincoln City, but a last minute meeting was scheduled Friday afternoon. Not knowing how she’d there, she asked if anyone had an airplane or knew a pilot, and thankfully David did.
After talking a bit with David, he gave my info to Nancy and we chatted to make the flight down happen.
The weather wasn’t looking too great at first, but as of Thursday, things were looking great. Friday though, I get the word that the plane I was planning to fly was in for maintenance… Just great…
After trying to figure out another option, one which included having her and her husband be flown by another pilot friend who has his own plane, at just a couple hours before our flight, I was able to get my hands on the other Cessna 172 thanks to one of the students who had the plane booked.
My friend Kristen was joining for the trip down and back, so after doing a weight and balance, checking the weather, and planning my route, we were good to go.
We all arrived around 5ish to Gorge Winds Aviation at the Troutdale Airport. I met Nancy and we surprised her husband Rick (who had no idea we were going flying). Loaded up. Then took off to get to Siletz Bay Airport before 7pm.
The flight was gorgeous and with some extra time we got to take in the views along the coast. This was my first time flying into Siletz Bay and I’m glad I did. It’s a nice small airport located right along the coast.
We had a smooth landing and after parking the plane. Gave some hugs and they were offer via taxi to their party.
Kristen and I then quickly hopped in the plane to get back to Troutdale before it got too dark. The sun was going down earlier in the day, but it made for a lovely sunset ride back along the coast towards Pacific City then onward to Portland.
With the city lights guiding our way, we arrived to Troutdale with a great landing in the night.
That was a fight to remember and one I’m looking forward to doing again sometime soon.
