  • Columbia Gorge/Portland Downtown with Kristen, Rob, and Michael

The first couple days of the weekend didn’t have the best flying weather, but Monday, Labor Day, ended up having some perfect weather for flying after the weekend rain.  Kristen and Rob had their first flights and Michael enjoyed his second.

Kristen and I had planned on going flying that day, so I started to reach out to some others to see about flying.  Michael was locked in shortly after we decided to go and Rob made the decision to go about thirty minutes before we left to the Troutdale airport.  We took off from Troutdale east through the Columbia Gorge taking it all in before just after the Bonneville Dam where I started to ascend to around 4,700 feet so we could take in Mt. Hood from the side and started making our way back to wards Troutdale.

Since Kristen was sitting in front, I told her that she could fly the plane if she wanted.  After some reluctance, she took the controls and flew the plane.  It wasn’t long though before she was giving me back the controls as she was quite nervous as she had no idea I was going to be doing that.  Reminds me that I should let my passengers know that they can fly the plane before hand.

After that we made our way down and past the Troutdale airport towards Portland.  We did a flight going over the Portland airport to the St. Johns Bridge before making our way south over Portland Downtown.  After the hospitals, we turned back towards downtown before heading eastward past Mt. Tabor before landing back at the Troutdale airport.

Quite the enjoyable flight with some excellent sites and great people.
