Last Lesson with Emily
Yesterday was my last flight with Emily (at least for a while) since James is returning this Sunday. I had an excellent time flying with Emily and she gave me a number of good pointers. I realized though that there is a lot I do not know about flying still and a lot I still need to get down before I am comfortable soloing.
I wasn’t too excited about my final flight with Emily since during this flight it seemed like I forgot everything I had practiced last week. My landings are getting much better so that is all well and good, but my use of the controls tend to be kinda jerky and something I really need to smooth out. When I try to correct my flying I sometimes over-correct and then attempt to fix that I do it again. Feels like a big mess. I am just trying to hard to make things go well and when they don’t I get somewhat frustrated and begin to over-correct even more. I really just need to relax and take my time correcting the plane. I also need to use my rudders more effectively!!!
The flight consisted of ground reference maneuvers (S-turns, Turn around a point) and some landings.
Overall I had a great final flight with Emily and look forward to making some great progress with James over the next couple weeks and beginning my soloing.

Good job! It will get better! Its not easy, thats why you are learning!
Chris Trappe sent me the link to your blog. You couldn't have picked a better outfit to learn from! Emily is a sweetie and a great CFI. I've known her since she was in diapers (literally). I even drove 200 plus miles the last time I needed a CFI sign off.
Something you might want to try, with controlling the airplane……Have her show you how you can fly it totally hands off with only trim and power. Practice that for an hour and you will be smooth as silk in no time.
The old bald eagle on the other side of the hill…..:D
